the haikuchallenge

I am particularly fond of haiku, and one of the projects I manage is the #haikuchallenge project on Twitter.

The challenge is deceptively simple: every day (weather permitting) I heave my copy of the OED off the shelf and select a word. I tweet that word with the following instructions: “today’s Haiku Challenge: any haiku you like, as long as it has the word ‘{insert daily challenge word here}’ in it… #haikuchallenge.” Participants are then required to craft a haiku using that day’s word and to tweet it using the Twitter hashtag “#haikuchallenge”. The results are always interesting. You can find these haiku on Twitter by searching for the hashtag #haikuchallenge.

This project began in early 2009, with more and more participants joining in all the time.
